Know What a Bond Contract Contains

Officials in Santa Clarita are concerned with making sure that their clients understand what they’re agreeing to when they sign a bail bond.

It is important that clients know that when they sign, they are agreeing to pay whatever the premium is for that bond. In California, that is 10%. This means that if a bond is $5000, the client is agreeing to pay $500. In addition, the client is required to put up collateral. This could be anything from a pink slip for a car to a deed for a house.

There are more costs that often go unnoticed. A client may be required to pay for phone calls, travel expenses, bounty hunter expenses, attorney fees, court costs and the full amount of the bond if the defendant does not appear for court dates.

Inessa Chavez, co-owner of All American Bail Bonds recommends the following, “Keep the bail agent advised of any address or employment changes of the defendant or other parties to the agreement. Also, if your loved one has skipped their court date, help aid the bail agent and fugitive recovery agents in locating the defendant.”

To protect themselves, Chavez says, “Our clients should read all agreements thoroughly, asking questions until all items and obligations are understood. This will help make the experience a more positive one. Agents who are in the business of bail bonds in Santa Clarita want to help you and your family.”
